The Vijayanagar Disabled Welfare Association, established in 1997 with the sole aim of providing education, training, counseling, and guidance to children and youth who are mentally and physically challenged, endeavors to make these citizens self-reliant and integrate them into the mainstream of society. The association currently operates "Vikasa," a school with trained teachers, where approximately 78 children are being trained to harness their special abilities. Dependent mainly on donations from charitable institutions and philanthropic individuals for its smooth and effective functioning, running the special school has been a challenging task. To better empower our children to face the rigors of modern-day life, the association seeks to diversify its activities and focus on programs such as job-oriented training for disabled youth and computer training, including desktop publishing.
